Based on a wet chemical reaction, this test is extremely reliable and easy to use. Insert a small amount of the substance and the ampoule will change colour. Compare then the colour change with the chart included in the instructions.
A yellowish colour indicates the presence of heroin.
A red colour indicates the presence of morphine.
An orange colour indicates the presence of opium.
A greenish colour indicates the presence of codeine.
Like any rapid test, this test delivers a purely indicative result. To know or confirm with certainty the composition of the sample, it is necessary to analyse it with a reference analytical method such as GC/MS or HPLC-MS/MS. The use of this test must therefore be done with full knowledge of the fact that no rapid screening test can be 100% reliable.
While colour metric testing is the best method for on-the-spot screening, it is never 100% conclusive. There are many variables that can impact the result, such as user error, contaminants, and fillers. The results of a colour metric kit should be confirmed by a professional where possible using a referenced analytical method such as HPLC and GCMS.
Neither a positive result, nor a negative result means a drug is safe to use.
