Very simple to use, this test is based on a wet chemical reaction.
Add small quantity of the substance to be identified, and the granules contained in the ampoule change colour. Then compare the colour of the granules with the colorimetric chart included in the instructions.
This test works with tablets (ecstasy/MDMA pills), powders and crystals.
- It does not identify PMA / PMMA.
- It does not distinguish amphetamine from methamphetamine, or 2C-B from 2C-I.
- The colours of the colorimetric chart were defined using laboratory chemical standards. If the test sample contains several molecules simultaneously or other interfering substances such as certain cutting products, this may influence the final colour of the test.
While colour metric testing is the best method for on-the-spot screening, it is never 100% conclusive. There are many variables that can impact the result, such as user error, contaminants, and fillers. The results of a colour metric kit should be confirmed by a professional where possible using a referenced analytical method such as HPLC and GCMS.
Neither a positive result, nor a negative result means a drug is safe to use.
