Since PEDTest Australia was started in November 2021, we have been recording customer results in a database. The purpose of the database is to track steroid brands available in Australia and how their quality changes over time to provide statistics to the fitness community. The database is also used for kit quality control and product development.

The database records the date, brand, steroid type and test result for individual vials in each kit. Comments are added if the user mentions blood results and side effects, and whether the result indicates chemical contamination (precipitation when tested). Each result is classified as Confirmed, Swapped, Bunk or Inconclusive. No customer information is recorded.

The database is not public, and we do not “name and shame” brands unless they pose an obvious threat to public safety. We do publish a “Scammer List” on our website which is updated frequently throughout the year (Scammer List – 2025 – PED Test Australia).

We do not recommend brands, suppliers or websites, or encourage illegal drug use.

During 2024 customers reported results for 830 oils, 354 orals and 10 raws (imported steroid concentrates), for a total of 1194 samples – a 15% increase from 2023.

In addition to this, we have analysis results for 30 samples submitted to a forensic lab for contaminant analysis (the results of which are available HERE) and the Cheqpoint steroid checking trial in QLD analysed 45 samples (the results of which can be found HERE).

Brands

There were 217 unique brand names reported to us by customers, and 178 samples reported with no brand name. This is a 19% increase in active brands from the year before.

The vast majority of these brands are produced by underground labs within Australia using imported Chinese “raws”. However, we are starting to see results come in from other countries as well – brands from Germany, Russia, Poland, Indonesia, Canada, Bulgaria, New Zealand and India were seen this year. Results for Indian orals are becoming more frequent and make up the majority of overseas results in 2024.

Steroid Types

Results in 2024 covered 18 different types of injectable steroid compounds and HGH. This does not include the various types of blends and dosages. Results were reported for 24 types of oral drug compounds, ranging from steroids, cutting agents, SARMs, aromatase inhibitors to blood pressure medications and erectile disfunction drugs. Kits are currently being developed for these medications and are expected to be released during early 2025.

Chemical Contamination in Oils Results

Since 2022, we have noted multiple brands were showing evidence of “chemical” contamination which is most likely due to a residue left in the “raws” during manufacture in China. When tested using a kit, they develop varying degrees of precipitation – the results in the kit vials are cloudy, chunky or solid due to additional reactions taking place. This contamination can interfere with the reaction of the steroid being tested, causing the resulting colours to be lighter and more difficult to interpret. It appears to be most often present in enthanthate ester products.

Of all the oil kit results reported to us:

  • 45% had no chemical contamination visible in the results
  • 42% had some level of chemical contamination (ranging from slightly cloudy to solid results)
  • 10% of all results had such strong contamination that a steroid ID was not possible (causing an inconclusive result – not bunk as it still showed a steroid present).

These statistics are almost identical to what we saw in 2023.

Contaminants are difficult to identify with the laboratory methods currently available to us, and prior to us noticing it in our kits results, the steroid using community was unaware of it. We consider it of utmost importance to continue researching this contamination and the potential side effects from short- and long-term exposure.

There are several brands that show good results for their oils but poor results for their orals, and vice-versa. Never assume that because some products produced by a brand are good, the rest of their products will be of the same quality.

This also shows how hard it is to avoid brands that are “scams”, as so many active brands in Australia show poor results which is often due to poor quality “raws”. Many of these brands have had good results at other times, reflecting the high variation and inconsistency between batches of steroids manufactured.

Oil Result Statistics

In 2024, oils results were very similar to what we saw in 2023.

  • Swapped oil products reduced from 16% in 2023 back down to 12%
  • Oils with no active ingredient went from 2% up to 5%
  • 15% of oil presence kit results were inconclusive, mainly due to varying amounts of chemical contamination, as well as customers not following instructions correctly and producing results that could not be interpreted. This is an increase from 6% in 2023.
  • 67% of results reported were positive for the substance tested which is very similar to the previous year (61%).
  • 6% of all Test E&C potency results showed no steroid present at all. 45% of all Test E&C results indicated that the product tested was underdosed. Tren tended to perform better – there were no bunk potency results, and only 19% of results indicated an underdosed product.

The oil products shown most often to contain no steroid or a swapped steroid are Primo and Sustanon. Sustanon results often showed steroid present but not the correct blend, or swapped with Test E or Test P.

Interestingly, Tren was the most reliable type of oil steroid in 2024, for both presence and potency. Faked Tren was almost non-existent – only 1 result of Tren tested showed no Tren present. Only 1% of Tren results showed a swap of Tren A for E or vice versa. There were no results reported that showed no active ingredient present.

We saw a marked increase in Test E results that indicated ester contamination (results showing some colouration from another minor ester present). This was supported by the results seen in the Contaminant study done during 2024, where low level ester contamination could be seen in many products analysed.

The 124 oil results  showing no steroid present (Bunk) or swapped steroids were from 98 different brands (compared to 52 brands last year), not including over a dozen unnamed brands.

Oral Results Statistics

Orals results showed some changes from 2023.

  • The number of swapped oral products stayed steady at 17%
  • Bunk results rose from 7% in 2023 to 12%
  • Inconclusive results rose from 6% to 16%. This is due to a many factors, including very low dosages too hard to interpret, fillers and dyes, as well as customers not following kit instructions correctly.
  • 54% of results were positive for the substance tested, which is a significant decrease from 66% in 2023.

We have seen a reduction in the number of Anavar products being swapped with Dianabol, it is becoming more common to get underdosed and bunk products instead. 21% of Anavar results showed no active ingredient in 2024. The remainder of results showed substitutions with Winstrol, Dianabol and Cialis.

One of the most commonly swapped oral products is Clenbuterol – only 34% of results were positive. 41% of results showed a swap with Salbutamol, and the remainder inconclusive or containing no active ingredient.

The 97 oral results  showing no steroid present (Bunk) or swapped steroids were from 42 different brands (compared to 36 brands last year), in addition to 11 unnamed brands.

This doesn’t include brands where the dosage of steroid doesn’t match what is on the label, or where the result was inconclusive. Therefore, the likelihood of steroid brands providing products of poor quality is potentially significantly higher than indicated here.

HGH Result Statistics

HGH results have been a difficult one to get statistics for â€“ the majority of customers we discuss HGH results with do not wish to share brand names or whether a result was positive or negative, hence most of the results we do see are of people requiring help to interpret them. This causes a bias towards poor results in the database.

Of the 19 HGH results we have seen, 10 were positive. It is likely the negative results were either highly degraded HGH (due to poor storage and transport etc), a swap with analogues, or just mannitol filler.

Popular Brands

We consider a “popular brand” to be one that has had 10 or more results of any kind reported to us during a year. Keep in mind that not everyone reports their results, and people are more likely to buy kits when they are unsure of the quality of a steroid brand, which can influence the number of results reported per brand.

During 2024, there were 8 “popular brands” reported (a decrease from 21 in 2023). None of these are what we would consider being “good quality” (correct dosages, correct compounds, zero to minimal contamination and low variability of results over time). Two are known scammer brands (Sparta and Nexnos).

We get asked regularly which brands are “reliable”. Essentially, none. EVERY underground product will vary from batch to batch, and the data shows that even the most “reliable” brands will vary in potency and quality occasionally.

For steroid users, testing a sample of each batch you buy is the most cost-effective and efficient way to monitor changes in the quality of each brand used.

Lab Analysis

PedTest Australia periodically organises donated samples of steroids to be sent to a laboratory overseas for formal and more comprehensive analysis. The purpose of this is for quality control of our kit results, new kit development, and to provide the steroid user community with publicly available analysis results.

During 2024 we sent 30 donated oil and oral samples to an Australian forensic laboratory for identification, contaminant analysis and heavy metals analysis. The results are publicly available for users, researchers and health workers, and can be found HERE. Further blog articles discussing these results in depth will be released in the first half of 2025.
