Based on a wet chemical reaction, this identification test is extremely reliable and easy to use. Insert a small amount of the substance to identify. Compare then the colour change with the chart included in the leaflet.
A dark green colour indicates the presence of levamisole, an antiparasitic agent that can cause allergic and neurological reactions. When used regularly at high doses, its effects can be fatal.
A khaki colour indicates the presence of phenacetine, a precursor of paracetamol with analgesic (painkiller) and antipyretic (anti-fever) properties that has been withdrawn from the market because of its nephrotoxicity and carcinogenic potential.
A green / anis-green colour indicates the presence of ephedrine.
This test also can indicate the presence of ibuprofen, vitamin C, lidocaine, benzocaine and procaine.
Accurate result within 1 minute.
While colour metric testing is the best method for on-the-spot screening, it is never 100% conclusive. There are many variables that can impact the result, such as user error, contaminants, and fillers. The results of a colour metric kit should be confirmed by a professional where possible using a referenced analytical method such as HPLC and GCMS.
Neither a positive result, nor a negative result means a drug is safe to use.
