Since PEDTest Australia was started in November 2021, we have been recording customer kit results and laboratory analyses in a database. The purpose of the database is to track steroid brands available in Australia and how their quality changes over time to provide statistics to the fitness community. The database is also used for kit quality control and product development.

The database records the date, brand, steroid type and test result colours for each kit. Comments are added if the user mentions blood results and side effects, and whether the result indicates chemical or ester contamination. Each result is classified as Confirmed, Swapped, Bunk or Inconclusive. No customer information is recorded.

All analyses done to confirm kit results or for research purposes are also recorded in the database with their associated kit results.

The entire database is not public, and we do not “name and shame” brands unless they pose an obvious threat to public safety. We do publish a “Scammer List” on our website which is updated frequently throughout the year.

All lab analyses conducted by us via Janoshik Laboratory, forensic laboratories or university research associates are public and can be found in Steroid Analysis Results 2022-26 – Google Sheets

All analyses done by the Cheqpoint Steroid Testing Service in QLD can be downloaded from Steroid Checking Project Results! – hi-ground.org.

We do not recommend brands, suppliers or websites, or encourage illegal drug use. Our purpose is harm reduction via community testing, research and collaboration with harm reduction agencies and community groups.

During 2025:

  • 6,713 harm reduction products were sold from our online store.
  • 1,469 kit results were reported to us for inclusion in our database.
  • More than 2,700 customer support conversations were had via email and Instagram messages.

Customers reported results for 1,186 oil samples, 273 oral samples and 10 raw steroid concentrate samples – a 19% increase from 2024.

Chemically contaminated Test E potency kit result

Several new products have been added to our online store in 2025, including a test for Mast E, a Mould & Bacteria detection kit, and an improved Primo E test kit. Kits to detect peptides, heavy metals and other drugs are currently being developed and several are expected to be released during 2026.

During 2025 there was a world-wide shortage of steroids, caused by the shutdown of illegal concentrate manufacturers in China. Supplies to Australia were severely impacted, reaching a peak in the middle of the year, encouraging the rise of new brands and scammers. However, supply to Australia appears to have mostly recovered towards the end of the year.

Despite the volume of steroids available in Australia dropping dramatically during the year, the number of results reported to PEDTest increased.

Steroid Brands and Types

Anabolic Steroid Brands – New Zealand and Australia

As of the end of 2025, our database contains results associated with 495 unique brand names that have been (or still are) active within Australia and New Zealand. Less than 5 of these are legally manufactured.

During 2025, we received results for 278 different brands, in addition to 307 results that were either unbranded or the name was withheld by the customer. This is a 22% increase in active brands than the year before (Figure 1 Number of Brand Names Reported by Year).

Graph demonstrating number of brand names reported by year

The vast majority of these brands are produced by underground labs within Australia using imported Chinese concentrate powders (“raws”). However, we did see a small number of results come in from brands manufactured overseas as well – including Russia, Indonesia, Thailand, New Zealand, Belgium and India. Results for Indian orals are becoming more frequent and are the most common overseas brands reported in 2025.

Anabolic Steroid Types

Kit and Trial kit results in 2025 covered 17 types of injectable steroid compounds and 9 types of oral steroid compounds (not including various types of blends etc.).

Results were also reported for 12 types of other associated black market substances including peptides, cutting agents, aromatase inhibitors, ADHD, blood pressure and erectile disfunction medications (Table 1. Complete list of substances – received as kit results, trial kit results and/or laboratory analyses during 2025).

Injectable Steroid (Oils) Statistics

In 2025, injectable steroid (oil) kit results were affected by the shortages of raw concentrates.

  • Swapped oil products increased dramatically from 12% to 30%
  • Oils with no active ingredient decreased slightly from 5% to 3%
  • Inconclusive results increased slightly from 15% to 18%. Unlike previous years, the majority of these are believed to be due to an increase in underdosed, blended and ester contaminated products as “raws” stocks ran low.
  • Positive results dropped from 67% to 47%, showing a decrease in the availability of reliable steroid products.
  • Amazingly, only 2% of all Test E/C potency results showed no steroid present at all, a decrease from 6% in 2024. 34% of all Test E/C results indicated that the product tested was underdosed, a decrease from 45% in 2024. We believe these statistics may be due to the inability for people to source any Test E for several months, and the increase in people using other compounds instead.
  • Tren usually performs better than Test E/C, but this year that changed. Bunk potency results increased from 0% – 33%, with 11% of all results indicating an underdosed product.

The products most likely to be fake (no steroid or incorrect steroid) were Primo, Mast E and Sustanon. Sustanon results often showed steroid present but not the correct blend, or swapped with Test E or Test P, as can be seen in Sustanon samples analysed by Cheqpoint.

Interestingly, Tren was the most reliable type of oil steroid back in 2024, for both presence and potency. Faked Tren was almost non-existent. In 2025 that changed with a dramatic increase in bunk Tren products reported, as mentioned above.

The number of brands producing results that indicate no steroid or swapped steroids (not including trial kits etc.) increased dramatically from 98 to 144 – reflecting 52% of all brands reported this year. This increase is due to a combination of an increase in reporting and the shortages of “raws” affecting the quality of steroids circulating in the market.

Oral Steroid Statistics

Oral steroid results showed only minor changes from 2024.

  • The number of swapped oral products stayed steady at 16%
  • Bunk results dropped slightly from 12% to 10%
  • Inconclusive results stayed steady at 15%. This is due to many factors, including very low dosages too hard to interpret, fillers and dyes, as well as customers not following kit instructions correctly.
  • 57% of results were positive for the substance tested, which is an increase from 54% in 2024.

We have seen an increase in the use of Cialis to produce fake oral steroids this year, as well as some odd, unidentified substances in Anavar during the period of steroid shortages. It is expected that this will be identified in the upcoming analysis projects planned for 2026.

The oral steroid most likely to contain no steroid was Anadrol (23% of all results). The oral steroid most likely to be swapped was Winstrol (30% swapped with Dianabol, Cialis and Anadrol), closely followed by Dianabol (23% swapped with Cialis) which was a surprise and most likely reflected the efforts of brands to continue supplying customers during shortages.

The 97 oral results showing no steroid present or swapped steroids were from 37 different brands (compared to 42 brands last year), in addition to at least 4 unnamed brands.

This doesn’t include brands where the dosage of steroid doesn’t match what is on the label, or where the result was inconclusive. Therefore, the likelihood of steroid brands providing products of poor quality is significantly higher than indicated here.

Other Substances

We have received a significant number of customer-reported kit results for Arimidex and Cialis during 2025.

Of all the drug types in our database (including steroids), Cialis was the most likely to contain no active ingredient – 29% of results were bunk. Arimidex performed significantly better, with 69% of results being positive. While no Arimidex results were bunk, we have been unable to identify the compound used in swapped Arimidex products. This is one of the targets for upcoming research analysis in 2026.

Other substances tested have not accumulated enough results in the database to warrant statistics as yet. New and improved HGH kits are expected to arrive in early 2026, and we are looking forward to collecting statistics on brands supplying that product in Australia and New Zealand. As the kits will only give positive/negative results, we will be unable to identify the proportion of swapped products from kit results until analysis is done on a large number of samples.

Popular Brands

Number of kit and analysis results for Popular Brands during 2025 - PEDTest Australia

We consider a “popular brand” to be one that has had 10 or more results of any kind reported to us during a year. Keep in mind that not everyone reports their results, and people are more likely to report kit results when they are unsure of the quality of a steroid brand or interpretation of a kit result, which can influence the number of results reported per brand (Figure 3. Number of kit and analysis results for Popular Brands during 2025).

During 2025, there were 29 “popular brands” reported (a massive increase from 8 in 2024). 6 of these are known scammers (deliberate poor quality and/or underdosed products). The remainder vary from average to very poor quality.

We get asked regularly which brands are “reliable”. Essentially, none. EVERY underground product will vary from batch to batch, and our data shows that even the most “reliable” brands will vary in potency and quality often. This was especially true in 2025 when every brand struggled to source concentrates.

There are several brands that show good results for their oils but poor results for their orals, and vice versa. Never assume that because some products produced by a brand are good, the rest of their products will be of the same quality.

It is almost impossible to avoid brands that are “scams”, as so many active brands in Australia show poor results – most often due to poor quality “raws”. Many of these brands have had good results at other times, reflecting the high variation and inconsistency between batches of steroids manufactured.

The increase in brands reported is likely a combination of increased number of kits being used, as well as people having to find alternative brands as stocks decreased across Australia during 2025.

For steroid users, testing a sample of each batch you buy is the most cost-effective and efficient way to monitor changes in the quality of each brand used.

Lab Analysis and Research Projects

PEDTest Australia periodically organises community-donated samples of steroids to be sent to laboratories for formal and more comprehensive analysis. The purpose of this is quality control of our kits, new kit development, and to provide the community with publicly available harm reduction information.

During 2025, our research department was focused on publishing the results of our previous research and development of peptide testing kits. Analysis in 2025 was therefore restricted 3 samples of steroids. The results for these can be found in Steroid Analysis Results 2022-26 – Google Sheets.

One sample was a Masteron E that had given a false negative result in a kit test. Analysis was done by GCMS to try to identify any contaminants that may have caused such a result. No significant contaminants were identified and it was concluded that a different method (such as ICP) may perform better.

The second sample was a concentrate of Testosterone C that had an unusual chemical smell, colour and texture. It did not react conclusively with a test kit. A sample of this product had been investigated by researchers at the University of Queensland previously, with no success in identifying contaminants. GCMS was attempted on this sample which was unsuccessful in identifying contamination, and another method such as ICP was advised.

The third sample was a Test E that had given a >200mg potency result when tested by a customer, but his blood hormone results were anomalously low. He was concerned that the potency kit used was inaccurate. A sample of the steroid was analysed by GCMS and the potency result was confirmed as correct, leading us to believe there was potentially an error in the user’s self-administered dosage.

These samples were important in helping identify the best methods to use in an upcoming research project. In 2026, PEDTest Australia will be running a 6-month analysis project on donated samples in order to:

  • Compile statistics on user error (user results vs kits done at lab)
  • Compile data on how kit accuracy is affected by ester and chemical contamination
  • Collect data on the overall quality of steroids and peptides in the Australian market
  • Collect accuracy data required for PEDTest kits to obtain certification in various countries

The data collected will be used to improve kit design, develop new kits, as well as assist researchers from Australia and New Zealand.

The results of these sample analyses will be made public at  intervals throughout the project (contributors will be kept anonymous), for community and research harm reduction use. This will create the world’s largest database of steroid analysis results.

2026 Predictions

As Chinese manufacturers of steroid concentrates ramp back up to full production and raw concentrates filter their way into the Australian market, we will see an increase in the number of active brands in Australia, as well as an increase in the number of results reported into our database.

As shortages hit their peak in Australia in the middle of 2025, we saw many users abandoning Testosterone E and turning to other compounds such as Masteron P and Masteron E. Unfortunately, all other steroid compounds had been affected by shortages as well, and the majority of Masteron E was also underdosed and/or faked.

Towards the end of 2025, we began to see actual Masteron E coming back into the market, however we were yet to see positive Primo E results make a comeback.

As more legitimate raws filter through all the Australian brands, we expect steroid statistics (bunk/swapped/inconclusive results) to return to similar levels we saw in 2024, beginning with compounds such as Testosterone E and Masteron E, and more slowly with other, more expensive steroid compounds such as Primo E.

We predict that the large-scale lab analysis research program we will be running in 2026 will have an effect on lowering the number of swapped and underdosed products intentionally being sold in Australia. Especially If pill testing services manage to add steroid testing to their services in multiple Australian states, we expect to see a clear positive effect on statistics.
